Every month Doglet & Froglet sponsor a Guide Dog called Sage through the charity Guide Dogs UK. Guide Dogs UK support the independence of people with sight loss by providing them with the skills and services they need to pursue the life they choose and are a fantastic charity.

In 2022, Guide Dogs UK supported over 4,060 guide dog partnerships and nearly 700 My Sighted Guide partnerships (a service which connects a locally trained volunteer with a person with sight loss). Their fantastically trained dogs and wonderfully dedicated volunteers help people get out and about while also boosting their confidence.

So far Sage is doing really well thanks to her wonderful trainer Victoria. She loves her training and is picking everything up quickly! She walks in a straight line and alerts her trainer to every change in terrain to enable them to step down off kerbs safely.

She's currently working on 'intelligent disobedience' which is where Sage learns to refuse cues that are unsafe. For example if her owner gives a command to cross the road but a car is coming, Sage will learn to refuse this cue by turning around to indicate that it’s not safe to cross. Sage won't have done what her owner has asked but for a very good reason and it could save someone's life. Sage is picking this up really well!
